Damascus Third in Haskell at 3-5 Odds
Reigning Horse of the Year Damascus was sent off at 3-5 odds in the Amory L. Haskell Handicap at Monmouth Park on July 13, 1968, but stumbled leaving the gate and ended up finishing third while carrying top weight of 131 pounds. The 1 1/4-mile race was won by G. D. Widener's Bold Hour, who toted 116 pounds, with Mr. Right, under a 114 pound impost, second. The Haskell was the second consecutive third-place finish for Damascus while carrying a heavy burden. He had finished third in the Suburban Handicap with a 133 pound assignment.

Dearly Precious Posts Fifth Straight Win
R. E. Bailey's Dearly Precious led throughout to post a 2 3/4-length victory in the Astoria Stakes at Belmont Park on July 13, 1975. Running the 5 1/2 furlongs over a sloppy track in 1:04 1/5, the daughter of Dr. Fager trained by Steve DiMauro remained undefeated since finishing fifth in her career debut at Aqueduct. With eight wins in nine starts, Dearly Precious was voted champion 2-year-old filly honors for 1975.
