Volponi, Monarch's Maze Sire First Winners

Volponi, winner of the 2002 Breeders' Cup Classic (gr. I), and grade II winner Monarch's Maze were represented by their first winners June 21. Volponi's first winner, Energy Center, won at Woodbine in his second race. Bred in Kentucky by E.H. Beau Lane III, Energy Center scored by a nose in :53.36 for the 4 1/2 furlongs for Dominion Bloodstock, Derek Ball, and Hugh Galbraith. He is the first foal from the Glitterman mare Byebyebabybyebye.

Volponi (Cryptoclearance--Prim Knight, by Sir Harry Lewis) stands in Korea at the K.R.A. Jeju Stud Farm. He stood at Rick Trontz' Hopewell Farm near Midway, Ky., his first year at stud.

Monarch's Maze's first winner, Troubling Maze, won by a 8 1/4 lengths at Ruidoso Downs at first asking. Bred in Oklahoma by Ross Burdette, Troubling Maze won the 5 1/2-furlong race in 1:09.20 for Gary L. Thompson. He is the second foal from the Matchlite mare Talkin Trouble.

Monarch's Maze (Kingmambo--Puzzle Book, by Text) stands for $2,000 at Richland Farms near Sallisaw, Okla.
