Edited press release
Jim Gallagher, most recently a consultant for the Racing Medication and Testing Consortium, has been named executive director of the New York Thoroughbred Horsemen’s Association.
Gallagher will be responsible for overseeing the daily operation of the New York THA, which represents horsemen at Aqueduct, Belmont Park, and Saratoga. He will interact with the New York Racing Association on all issues related to horsemen.
“I’m thrilled to be back working with the New York horsemen and am eager to get started implementing new ideas,” Gallagher said. “I’m a solution-oriented professional, and I fully intend to do everything in my power to work with (New York THA president) Rick Violette and the board of the New York THA to improve conditions for New York horsemen.”
Gallagher has served as chief of racing operations for the New York State Racing and Wagering Board and vice president of regulatory compliance and pari-mutuel operations for NYRA. He also had a job as executive director of the Kentucky Horse Racing Authority.
“We are fortunate to have some of Jim’s background and expertise available to join the New York THA,” Violette said.
