Racing Celebs to Raise Money for Backside Education

Derby winning jockey Calvin Borel and trainer Carl Nafzger are among the celebrity bartenders who will take part in a fundraising event supporting the Backside Learning Center and the Race for Education to be held at the Kentucky Derby Museum next to Churchill Downs following the running of the Stephen Foster Handicap (gr. I) Saturday.

Tickets, available at the door, are $100 per person and include a full bar and appetizers as well as access to all museum exhibits.

University of Louisville men's basketball coach Rick Pitino, Hall of Fame trainer D. Wayne Lukas, Heisman Trophy winner and Green Bay Packer great Paul Hornung and champion jockey Chris McCarron are among the celebrities taking part in the event, which should begin at about 6 p.m. EDT. Presented by the Equine Wellness Foundation to benefit horsemen’s education, special guests will serve their favorite drinks.

The evening includes a silent auction of items, including mini saddlecloths signed by Derby riders from the last three years, a wine tasting for 20, halters for several famous horses, Barbaro poster signed by Jockey Edgar Prado, Derby 133 program signed by riders, use of a cabin in Gatlinburg, a night at the Galt House and a suite for a day at the races at Keeneland.
