Grade I winner Brahms, a $1-million Keeneland July sale yearling, will begin his stallion career in 2002 at Vinery Kentucky near Lexington. The 4-year-old son of Danzig is scheduled to run in Saturday's Woodford Reserve Turf Classic Stakes (gr. IT) at Churchill Downs.

Brahms, who is owned by Dr. Tom VanMeter II and partners, scored his major victory in the 2000 Early Times Hollywood Derby (gr. IT). He also scored a graded stakes win in last year's River City Handicap on grass, and ran second in the Maker's Mark Mile Stakes (gr. IIT) at Keeneland in his last start. Group stakes-placed in England and Ireland as a 2-year-old, Brahms has won or placed in 10 of 11 starts and earned $640,035.

Plans call for him to be pointed toward the Breeders' Cup Mile (gr. IT). His dam, Queena (by Mr. Prospector), was 1991 champion older female for Brahms' breeder, Emory A. Hamilton.
