Irish group II winner Van Nistelrooy was represented by his first North American 2-year-old winner when his daughter Maileys Cat won the June 9 TTA Sales Futurity at Lone Star Park in her second start. Bred in Kentucky by the late R. Smiser West and his wife, Kathryn, Maileys Cat won the five-furlong stakes in :58.35 for Turf Express and Robert L. Beck. She is the first foal from the Grindstone mare Miss Malley.
Van Nistelrooy, who began his stallion career on Southern Hemisphere time in New Zealand, was North America's top priced yearling, at $6.4 million, in 2001. Van Nistelrooy (Storm Cat--Halory, by Halo) stands for $7,500 at Ashford Stud near Versailles, Ky.
