(edited press release)

The purses of the Maryland Million Lassie and the Maryland Million Nursery – both races for two-year-olds formerly valued at $125,000 and run at Laurel Park on Maryland Million Day – will be boosted to $150,000 each in 2007, Maryland Million Ltd. announced June 4.

This raise comes on the heels of increases made in March to the Maryland Million Classic (now $300,000), the Maryland Million Ladies (now $200,000), and the Maryland Million Turf (now $200,000).

“The Maryland Million program is, most importantly, a stallion stakes program – and the two-year-old races are an important showcase for the younger stallions,” said Wayne Harrison, president of Maryland Million Ltd. “Maryland sires are the best in the region and we want to reward those stallion managers and the loyal owners and breeders who come to Maryland each year.”

Total purses and awards for Maryland Million Day 2007, held Oct. 13 at Laurel Park, will now exceed $1.7 million. In addition to Maryland Million Day, the program now includes purse premiums on open stakes throughout the racing season, plus a restricted stakes race on De Francis Dash Day.
