Desormeaux Takes Belmont's State-Bred Stakes
One race earlier, Desormeaux guided favored Laurentide Ice to victory in the $75,000 Cupecoy’s Joy Division for 3-year-old fillies. Both races were at a mile. In the Spectacular Bid, Dr. V’s Magic raced with the pace of :23.12; :45.92 and 1:10.20 with Texas Elegance, battled with Stunt Man and then drew away to win in 1:36.53 on the fast track. A son of Raffie's Majesty trained by Dominic Galluscio, he paid $10.60 to win. (Chart, Equibase) In the Cupecoy’s Joy Division, Camelia J. Casby’s Laurentide Ice was on her best behavior and, thanks to a solid early pace by City in the Clouds and Zip of Fools, was an easy four-length victor in 1:37.94 for trainer Mark Hennig. Laurentide Ice, a daughter of Initdab, rewarded her backers with a payoff of $6.70. (Chart, Equibase)
