Wonderful Luck and jockey David Flores win the Cinderella Stakes, Sunday, at Hollywood Park.
Asmussen Has Wonderful Luck in Cinderella Win
In a pair of juvenile stakes races at Hollywood Park Sunday,
Wonderful Luck overcame a slow start to rally for an easy 2 3/4-length victory under jockey
David Flores in Sunday’s $77,775
Cinderella Stakes, while
Thoroughly also used come-from-behind tactics for
Corey Nakatani to remain unbeaten with a 1 3/4-length victory in the $82,825
Willard L. Proctor Memorial Stakes.
Trainer
Steve Asmussen made it back-to-back victories in the Cinderella after winning in 2006 with Richwoman. Asmussen was represented by third-place finisher Bold Trust earlier on the program in the Proctor.
Wonderful Luck, the 3-5 betting favorite, moved into contention on the far outside nearing the quarter pole and made the lead inside the sixteenth pole with little urging, covering 5 1/2 furlongs on Cushion Track in 1:06.48.
The Kentucky-bred daughter of
Trust N Luck, owned by
Vinery Stables, paid $3.40, $2.60 and $2.20 while winning for the second time in three starts. The winner’s share of $46,665 raised her earnings to $86,736.
Another Aleyna, ridden by
Michael Baze, ran gamely for second, returning $6.60 and $4.80.
Affirmed Cat, another 1 1/4 lengths back in third at odds of 43-1 under
Agapito Delgadillo, paid $8.80.

Thoroughly Remains Unbeaten After Proctor Win
Thoroughly rallied impressively in the stretch to win going away over pacesetter
Run Brother Run, who was all in with an eighth of a mile to go.
The Florida-bred son of
Full Mandate, a distant eighth down the backstretch, circled the field entering the stretch and made up seven lengths in the final furlong while covering 5 1/2 furlongs in 1:05.71.
Thoroughly, trained by
Peter Miller for
Gerson Racing, broke his maiden here May 16 in his first lifetime start.
Now two-for-two, he paid $12, $8 and $5. Run Brother Run, a 24-1 shot who came close to upsetting the field under
Roberto Gonzalez, returned $19.20 and $8.60. Favorite
Bold Trust, another 1 3/4 lengths back in third under
David Flores, paid $3.20.
Thoroughly, a $20,000 purchase at Barretts in March, banked $46,725 to raise his earnings to $58,725.
Run Brother Ron was also making his second start after breaking his maiden April 4 at Bay Meadows.
