Jockey Pat Day won four straight races at Churchill Downs Sunday capped by a winning ride on Royal Strand in the 1 1/16-mile feature race.
Day's streak of winners began in the sixth race, when 3-year-old filly Naughty Mambo ($8.80) earned her first win in a six-furlong main track event for maidens. He then rallied Rose Creek ($21) to a 3/4-length victory in a one-mile turf race and odds-on Spanish Glitter ($3.40) to a one-length win in a 6 1/2-furlong allowance heat. The pick three ending with Spanish Glitter's win paid $161.80.
In the feature race, Day rated Royal Strand just off the pace before holding off a determined Beckon the King at the wire to win by a nose against a tough field. The Elliot Walden-trained Royal Strand completed the distance in 1:42.18 on firm turf.
Royal Strand, the 19-10 favorite, paid $5.80 for the win and completed an all-Day pick three worth $147.20. (Charts, Equibase
