Jockey Jose Espinoza Fractures Ankle; Will Require Surgery Espinoza was thrown in the fourth race at Belmont May 13 after his mount, the Rodrigo Ubillo-trained A Million Demons, was bumped on the first turn. The jockey was transported to North Shore University Hospital, where X-rays detected the dislocated ankle. “They took X-rays yesterday and reduced the swelling by putting his ankle in a cast,” DeStasio said. “The orthopedist hadn’t come to see him when I left last night; they’re going to look at him (May 14). They will do surgery, it just depends on who will do it or when. He’ll probably be out four to six months.” Espinoza is the brother of West Coast jockey Victor Espinoza. |
