Distant Way and jockey Mirco Demuro teamed up for a repeat victory in the Premio Presidente Della Repubblica (Ity-I) at Capannelle on Sunday.

The lightly-raced 6-year-old son of Distant View made the trip to the winner’s enclosure for the first time since capturing this same event twelve months ago.  He has been keeping good company in the meantime, however. In October he finished a good fourth in the Premio Vittorio di Capua (Ity-I), and then finished a close third to fellow group I winner Cherry Mix in the Premio Roma (Ity-I) the following month.

Cherry Mix and jockey Kerrin McEvoy went to the front inside the last half-mile of the ten-furlong race. Pressing was close behind, however, and the Soviet Star colt took over with two furlongs left. He had no answer for Distant Way, however, when that one challenged within the last 200 yards to win by a half-length. Pressing hung on for second, one length ahead of Soldier Hollow.

Distant Way is a 6-year-old bay horse by Distant View, out of Grey Way, by Cozzene.
