(from CHRB report)
The California Horse Racing Board has filed a complaint against trainer Patrick Biancone for a Class 3 violation of medication regulations after post-race testing identified the presence of salmeterol in the urine sample collected from Iron Butterfly, a horse in his care.
The Maddy Laboratory at the University of California-Davis made the initial finding and the laboratory at Iowa State University confirmed the presence of salmeterol in the split sample.
Salmeterol is a beta-2 agonist similar to clenbuterol and albuterol, bronchodilators approved for use in the horse.
Iron Butterfly finished second in the second race at Santa Anita Park on Jan. 7.
A hearing date has not been set.
