Seafree, hampered by a poor start in her last start, will try to make amends in Sunday's $100,000 Hawthorne Handicap (gr. III)  for fillies and mares on the Cushion Track at Hollywood Park.

The 4-year-old daughter of Chief Seattle missed the board for the first time in 10 starts when breaking poorly in the Santa Maria (gr. I) at Santa Anita in February.

"She broke in the air and got beat about four lengths," trainer John Sadler said.

Seafree, owned by Edmund Gann, was trained by Bobby Frankel until Gann made a switch to Sadler last fall. She will face five rivals including Cantabria from the powerful Frankel stable in the 1 1/16-mile Hawthorne.

Seafree has trained smartly here for her return. She completed preparation for the Hawthorne with a six-furlong move in 1:13 2/5 Monday.

"It was a nice and steady work," Sadler said.

Cantabria, a homebred owned by Juddmonte Farms, has won two of three U.S. starts since arriving from Europe. Fifth in the El Encino (gr. II) at Santa Anita in January, she has won a pair of allowance races, including a victory on Cushion Track in her U.S. debut in November. The 4-year-old enters the Hawthorne with three wins in 13 starts and earnings of $133,923.

Ballado's Thunder, winner of the Santa Lucia Handicap in her last start at Santa Anita, has won four of 12 starts and $169,358.

Pyramid Love, a daughter of Fusaichi Pegasus owned by Will Farish and trained by Patrick Biancone, has won four of eight starts and $133,683. She has been shipped from Kentucky for the Hawthorne, where she finished second April 18 in the Doubledogdare (gr. III). The French import won a pair of allowance races on Keeneland's synthetic track.

Brazilian-bred River Savage, winner of the Paseana Handicap at Santa Anita in January, has tested grade I company in her three most recent starts, her best effort a third in the Santa Margarita two starts back. A winner of five of 16 starts while earning $204,829, she seeks to rebound from a sixth-place finish in the Apple Blossom Handicap (gr. I) at Oaklawn Park on April 7.
