Barbaro Documentary Will Air on NBC After Derby
"Barbaro: A Nation's Horse" has finally found a home. NBC Sports has announced that the one-hour documentary focusing on the life of last year's Kentucky Derby (gr. I) winner will air on the NBC network Saturday, May 5, at 8 p.m. ET. That will be 90 minutes after the completion of the network's coverage of this year's Run for the Roses. The documentary was originally scheduled to air on NBC at 5 p.m. April 29, but was pre-empted when a Stanley Cup playoff hockey game between the New York Rangers and Buffalo Sabres went into double overtime, and didn't finish until 6:15 p.m. The network then announced the Barbaro program would air on CNBC Friday, March 4, but changed gears again to give the program a network premiere showing Saturday on the NBC network. The documentary follows Barbaro's story from a young horse up through his struggle for life after suffering a broken leg in last year's Preakness Stakes (gr. I). Barbaro was euthanized Jan. 29 due to complications from laminitis. |
