The connections of Maryland-based Xchanger continue to point the Federico Tesio Stakes winner toward Saturday’s Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (gr. I).

On Monday, April 30, co-owner Dominic Zannini told the Churchill Downs Kentucky Derby notes team that the Exchange Rate   colt would likely be sent to the Louisville track with designs on running in the Derby.

“Nothing's 100%, and I am not committing to anyone but I like the way things are shaping up,” Zannini said. “We are preparing for it like we’re coming. The best case scenario is we’ll be there.”

As Zannini, co-owner Joe Masone, and co-owner/trainer Mark Shuman entertained offers for the colt, Xchanger’s status remained in question. Xchanger’s presence in the Derby field would have the effect of knocking out Teuflesberg, unless another horse drops out before entries are taken Wednesday.

With $122,492 in earnings in graded stakes races, Teuflesberg ranks 21st on that list among Derby probables. The top 20 on the graded earnings list are given preference in determining the starting field for the $2-million, 1 1/4-mile Derby.

Xchanger has won three of eight starts, with two thirds, while earning $291,990. In addition to the Federico Tesio, he won the 2006 Sapling Stakes (gr. III) at Monmouth Park. His third-place finishes came in the Nashua Stakes (gr. III) at Aqueduct and the Delta Jackpot at Delta Downs.
