Godolphin stallion Dubai Millennium, who underwent surgery Monday to relieve a blockage of the small intestine, remains in critical condition, according to a representative from Sheikh Mohammed's Darley Stud Management on Friday morning. The stallion's health took a turn for the worse the day after the 1 3/4-hour operation, and he underwent another operation that night. On Wednesday, Sheikh Mohammed arrived from Dubai to be with him. The colic surgery was conducted by veterinarians Huw Neal and James Crowhurst with Newmarket, England-based Greenwood, Ellis, and Partners.
Classified by Sheikh Mohammed as the best horse he has ever campaigned, Dubai Millennium won nine of 10 starts and earned the equivalent of $4.4 million. The son of Seeking the Gold went to stud with much fanfare and a first year fee reportedly of £100,000 (about $150,000).
