A Trippi colt consigned by Ocala Stud was sold for $410,000 to E. Paul Robsham Stable to top the Ocala Breeders' Sales Company's 2007 Spring Sale of Two-Year-Olds in Training during the final session Friday.
The bay colt is out of Unbridled Bliss, by Unbridled, a half sister to graded stakes winning OBS graduate Blissful State. He worked a quarter in :22 flat at the Under Tack Show.
For the entire four-day sale, 786 horses grossed $22,698,400, compared with 756 horses selling for a sale record $24,565,500. The average was $28,878 compared with last year’s sale record $32,494, while the median price of $17,000, identical to last year. The buyback percentage was 27.7%. It was 22.5% in 2006.
Silver Rapids, a colt by Mizzen Mast consigned by agent Paul Sharp, went to Mike McCarty for $320,000. The gray or roan colt, who worked a quarter in :21 3/5 at the Under Tack Show, is out of River Dyna, by Dynaformer, a half sister to stakes placed Common Threads.
Zayat Stables went to $300,000 for a Stormy Atlantic filly whose eighth in :10 1/5 was co-fastest at last Saturday’s Under Tack session. Consigned by agent Costanzo Sales, the dark bay or brown filly is out of Southern Musical, by Southern Halo.
A filly by Exchange Rate consigned by Stephens Thoroughbreds, agent for John Stephens and Padua Stables, was purchased for $230,000 by Gary Contessa, agent for D J Stables. The bay filly, who worked an eighth in :10 3/5, is out of Speak Up, by Unaccounted For, and is a half sister to stakes placed Bianco.
Reflex Action, a colt by Fortunate Prospect consigned by Shadybrook Farm, Inc., (Michael Yates), agent for Sherman Family Thoroughbreds, was sold to William J. Condren for $190,000. The dark bay or brown colt is out of Reflexion, by Miner’s Mark, a half sister to graded stakes winner Hill Pass. He worked a quarter in :22 2/5 at the Under Tack Show.
For the final day's session, 175 horses brought a total of $5,700,900, compared with 178 horses selling for $4,623,600 at last year’s curtain-closing session. The average price was $32,577, up 25.4% when compared with $25,975 in 2006, while the median price rose 33.3% to $17,000 from $12,750 a year ago. The buyback percentage was 32.7%; it was 23.3% last year. Ten horses brought $100,000 or more compared to seven last year.
Next on the OBS calendar is the June Sale of Two-Year-Olds and Horses of Racing Age, set for June 19-20, with Under Tack Shows scheduled for June 16-17 at 8 a.m.
