Matty G Colt Tops Third Session Of OBS Spring Sale

Matty's Man, a colt from the first crop of Matty G, sold for $210,000 Wednesday to top the third session of the Ocala Breeders' Sales Company's spring sale of 2-year-olds in training. Matty's Man, who worked a quarter-mile in :21 3/5 during the April 20 under tack show, was bought by Robert Scanlon, agent. Consigned by Eisaman Equine, agent, the colt is out of stakes-placed Joy to Raise, by Raise a Man.

Matty's Man sold previously as a weanling at the 1999 OBS October mixed sale for $10,000. Consigned by VanAnn Farm, agent, he was purchased by Gold Circle Racing.

For the session, OBS reported that 165 horses sold for a total of $4,480,400, compared with 178 selling for $4,686,000 in the corresponding session a year ago. The average price was $27,154 compared with $26,326 in 2000's third session and the median price was $16,000 compared with $20,000 last year. The buyback percentage was 33.1%, compared with 22.9% in last year's third session. Kaaren & Hays Biggs led the day's buyers with three for a total of $335,000.

California high-tech executive David Shimmon paid $200,000 a filly by Meadowlake out of Go for It Lady, by Mr. Prospector. The chestnut filly was consigned by Southern Chase Farm, (Greg and Karen Dodd), agent.

The spring sale's fourth and final session is today.
