NTRA Services Hub Handle Tops $6 Million

The NTRA Services wagering hub in Oregon handled $6,133,521 for the first quarter of 2001, by far the highest figure for a three-period since the first report was submitted early last year.

The $6.1 million, generated by bettors in Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, and Oregon, is almost twice as large as the pari-mutuel handle recorded for the first three months of 2000.

NTRA Services, a subsidiary of the National Thoroughbred Racing Association, operates the hub in conjunction with the TV Games Network. From Jan. 1-March 31 of this year, TVG aired 1,039 hours of programming that featured 7,920 races, the Oregon Racing Commission reported.

The highest three-month handle in 2000 came during the fourth quarter, when $5,710,917 was wagered. For all of 2000, more than $18 million was wagered through the hub.

Of the more than $6.1 million that streamed through the Oregon hub in the first quarter of 2001, $4.8 million went back to bettors, $797,000 was generated in host and source-market fees, $417,000 went to TVG, $46,000 went to the NTRA, and $15,000 went to the state of Oregon.
