About 400 newspapers in major markets or horse racing markets have received a CD-ROM from the National Thoroughbred Racing Association to facilitate coverage of Thoroughbred racing.The disk contains photographs of owners, trainers, jockeys, and horses, as well as logos and graphics. The package is similar to those produced by other sports leagues.Eric Wing, spokesman for the NTRA, said the idea for a CD-ROM was pushed along by comments made at a convention for Associated Press sports editors. In short, newspapers want art to go along with copy."Some people good-naturedly complained about a lack of photo assets (for racing)," Wing said. "They said it's easier to pass on a story rather than just run plain text. Other leagues provide this service, and we're just trying to be competitive."The CD-ROM was sent out in early April. On the cover is a photo of Point Given, the probable favorite for the May 5 Kentucky Derby.
