Rags to Riches is 3-2 Choice in Final Oaks Pool

Derrick Smith and Michael Tabor’s Rags to Riches, the winner of the Las Virgenes (gr. I) and Santa Anita Oaks (gr. II), remained an overwhelming 3-2 favorite as the final pool in Churchill Downs’ 2007 Kentucky Oaks Future Wager came to a close Sunday evening.

The Todd Pletcher-trained daughter of A.P. Indy dominated the pool at racetracks and satellite wagering outlets in North America and Canada as betting concluded on April 15. Rags to Riches entered KOFW Pool 3 as the 2-1 favorite.

The second choice of the year’s final pool of Oaks Futures betting, Starlight Stable and Paul Lucarelli’s Octave, also hails from the Pletcher barn. The runner-up in the Ashland (gr. I) and the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies (gr. I) stood at odds of 6-1 at the end of Sunday wagering.

Anita Ebert’s homebred High Heels – the winner of Oaklawn’s Fantasy (gr. II) trained by Louisville native Gary Hartlage – was the third choice at 10-1.

Boca Grande, winner of Aqueduct's Comely (gr. II) Saturday, made a dramatic move to be fourth in the final wagering at 13-1. Cotton Blossom settled at 15-1, while the mutuel field, which includes all 3-year-old fillies other than the 23 individual horses in KOFW Pool 3, was at 17-1.

A total of $71,040 was wagered on the April 12-15 pool.

The 133rd running of the $500,000 added Kentucky Oaks (gr. I) is May 4 at Churchill Downs.
