Conveyor's Angel, a grade II stakes-winning mare owned by Charles Cono, has been retired from racing after fracturing a knee in the March 25 Santa Ana Handicap (gr. IIT) at Santa Anita, according to Daily Racing Form. The 5-year-old daughter of Conveyor is booked to Stormy Atlantic , who stands at John Sikura's Hill 'n' Dale Farms near Lexington.
Conveyor's Angel, who finished second in the Santa Ana, scored her big career win in the Feb. 19 Buena Vista Handicap (gr. IIT) in her previous race. Her other added-money scores came in the 2004 Hidden Light Stakes and the 2005 Golden Poppy Breeders' Cup Stakes, both on grass. The Hidden Light was her first start for Cono. Conveyor's Angel previously raced for Debra Backlinie.
Conveyor's Angel, who was bred in Florida by Debra and Bill Backlinie, retired with five wins from 25 races and earnings of $337,858. Produced from the Prince Valid mare Supreme Angel, she is a half-sister to graded winner Valid Reprized.
Plans call for Conveyor's Angel to sell at this year's Keeneland November breeding stock sale.
