Stakes Winner Lawrence the Roman Retired

Lawrence the Roman, a 3-year-old son of Point Given  who won his first three starts by a combined 25 1/4 lengths, has been retired from racing because of an injured leg.

Bred in New York by Lawrence P. Roman, Edward English, and Jeff Levine, Lawrence the Roman raced as a 2-year-old for Roman, winning all three of his starts, including the Damon Runyon Stakes by 11 lengths at Aqueduct in December.

Following the race, Roman sold an interest in Lawrence the Roman before the colt made his 3-year-old debut in the Feb. 10 Whirlaway Stakes at Aqueduct. Racing for Roman in partnership with IEAH Stables and Sanford H. Robbins LLC, Lawrence the Roman ran unplaced in what was his final start. Roman subsequently rescinded the sale of controlling interest in Lawrence the Roman to IEAH (International Equine Acquisitions Holdings), which is managed by Michael Iavarone.

Lawrence the Roman, who is out of the winning Broad Brush mare Carly Lee, retired with three wins from four starts and earnings of $96,338. Breeding plans are undecided.
