(from Laurel Park report)
Nearly a dozen jockeys ambushed Geovany Garcia when he returned to the Laurel Park jockey’s room after riding his first career winner March 21.

The surprise attack, orchestrated by leading rider Jeremy Rose with buckets of water and containers of talcum powder, was a good natured greeting for the 18-year-old, who is the younger brother of popular Maryland mainstay Luis Garcia.

The Garcia brothers, who hail from Carolina, Puerto Rico, are represented by former rider Frank Douglas.

Westside Lady ($10.60) carried Garcia to victory in the fourth race of the afternoon, a $7,500 claiming test. Garcia kept the winner in good stalking position down the backstretch and moved to the fore as they raced to the finish line, although he dropped his whip in the process.

Garcia’s English was sparing, but the rail thin youngster showed a toothy smile in the winners’ circle. “I feel good. I started two weeks ago. In Puerto Rico I rode in amateur races.”
