Wicked Witchcraft, dam of 1994 champion older male The Wicked North, died March 13 of natural causes at David and Marylyn Randal's Randal Farm near Fallbrook, Calif. The 27-year-old daughter of Good Behaving out of the Yatasto mare Surrogate was pensioned.

The Wicked North is one of three graded winners from Wicked Witchcraft. Bred by Edward Zurek, The Wicked North raced first for Philip Hersh, then for Philip and Sophie Hersh Trust. During his championship season, The Wicked North won the Oaklawn (gr. I) and San Antonio (gr. II) Handicaps and set a track record in the Californian Stakes (gr. I). In that year's Santa Anita Handicap (gr. I), he ran first, but was disqualified and placed fourth.

A son of Far North, The Wicked North is pensioned from stud duty and resides at True North Farm near Versailles, Ky.

David Randal bought Wicked Witchcraft (in foal to Spectacular Bid) for $92,000 at the 1990 Keeneland November breeding stock sale from John J. Greely III, agent for Sunrise Farm. She later produced grade II winners A Lady From Dixie (by Dixieland Band) and Wild and Wicked (by Wild Again).

For her career, Wicked Witchcraft produced 11 foals, six of which were winners, including additional stakes winner Wicked Destiny (by Top Command).

Bred in Illinois by Charles E. Schmidt, Wicked Witchcraft scored her big win in the 1985 Marion H. Van Berg Memorial Handicap for Ginger Schmidt and Patricia Zurek. She won 10 of 33 races and earned $218,559.
