Hallowed Dreams fought off a late challenge from 22-1 longshot Itsacryingshame to defeat males in a 5 1/2-furlong allowance race for Louisiana-breds Friday night at Evangeline Downs.

The 4-year-old filly who began her career with 16 consecutive wins was in receipt of a one- to eight-pound weight concession from her six rivals in making her first start since breaking the track record for six furlongs at Fair Grounds. She stopped the timer in 1:04 2/5 Friday night under regular rider Sylvester Carmouche. The win marks her fifth consecutive win since having her record-tying 16-race win streak snapped at Evangeline Downs in August. She earned $10,500 for owners Johnny Gaspard and Lloyd Romero, the latter also serves as her trainer.

Hallowed Dreams (Malagra--Pacific's Dream, by Brother Machree) was bred by Mike Kennington and has earned $557,944 for winning 21 of 22 career races. In her most recent race prior to Friday night, she won the $125,000 Victoria Lass in March after having won the listed Pan Zareta Handicap the previous month.

Hallowed Dreams had faced males on two prior occasions, winning an Evangeline Downs allowance race and the restricted D. S. "Shine" Young Memorial Futurity while making her second and third career starts.

Bet down to 1-5, Hallowed Dreams returned $2.40 and $2.10 for her neck victory. Itsacryingshame paid $5.40 to place and completed a $20 exacta. There was no show wagering. (Chart, Equibase)
