Invasor Drills Sharp 5 Furlongs, to Ship March 20
Shadwell Stable’s Invasor worked a strong five furlongs in 1:00 3/5 Friday morning at Palm Meadows for trainer Kiaran McLaughlin as the Argentine-bred gets closer to a return trip to Dubai where he suffered his only career defeat finishing fourth to Discreet Cat a year ago in the UAE Derby (UAE-II). The 2006 Horse of the Year, Invasor is expected to get a rematch with Godolphin’s Discreet Cat in the $6 million Dubai World Cup (UAE-I) on March 31. He exits a remarkable performance winning the Donn Handicap (gr. I) at Gulfstream on Feb. 3, in his first start since sealing his Eclipse Award titles capturing the Breeders’ Cup Classic - Powered by Dodge (gr. I) over Bernardini at Churchill Downs on Nov. 4. A 5-year-old son of the recently deceased sire Candy Stripes, Invasor is scheduled to leave for the Middle East on March 20 along with a number of other American-trained contenders for the rich World Cup Day races. McLaughlin also had Shadwell’s 2006 Belmont Stakes (gr. I) hero Jazil out for some work Friday morning. The 4-year-old son of Seeking the God breezed a half-mile on turf in :50 with no firm plan as yet for his next start. He finished second behind eventual Gulfstream Park Handicap (gr. II) champ Corinthian in an allowance on Feb. 8. |
