Wild Maiden, a daughter of freshman sire Wild Gold, turned in the fastest eighth-mile work Friday during the third under tack show for the Ocala Breeders' Sales Company's April auction of 2-year-olds in training. She stopped the clock in :10 1/5, which also was the fastest time posted for the distance since the series of previews began on Wednesday.
Consigned by AbraCadabra Farms, agent, Wild Maiden is the first foal produced from the 10-year-old Dominated mare Dominating Dottiet, a winner who finished third in the 1994 Suncoast Stakes at Tampa Bay Downs. Wild Maiden went through the sale ring twice as a yearling. She was purchased for $800 by Frank Stanish from Diversified Thoroughbreds, agent for Waterbury Thoroughbreds, at the OBS January mixed sale. Wild Maiden then was offered by McKibben Thoroughbreds at the OBS August yearling sale, where she was bought for $10,000 by Bakers Dozen Stable.
Colts by Prospect Bay and Tactical Advantage tied for the fastest quarter-mile work, stopping the clock in :21 2/5, which eclipsed the best times posted during the sale's first two under tack shows. The Prospect Bay -- Delamar colt is consigned by Shanbally Acres. The Tactical Advantage -- Houston's Piano colt, who is named Take Advantage, is consigned by Cleveland Wheeler.
Smoke Chaser, a daughter of freshman sire Smoke Glacken, turned in the fastest three-furlong work, covering the distance in :33 4/5. She is consigned by Farsworth Farms. Smoke Chaser's 12-year-old dam, Fortune Forty Four, won the 1994 Zippy Do Handicap at Calder Race Course and earned $241,790.
The OBS April sale will be conducted April 23-26 in Ocala, Fla.
