Louisiana’s 2002 broodmare of the year Run Prissy Run, died of an apparent heart attack March 5 at Clear Creek Stud near Folsom, Louisiana. The unraced daughter Bayou Hebert out of the Tudor Grey mare Jannis Jan, was 16-years-old.

Run Prissy Run was bred by Louisiana Thoroughbred Breeders Association secretary-treasurer Tom Early. She was sold by Early as a yearling in 1992 for $8,500 to Murray Valene. With a promising racing future, Run Prissy Run contacted equine viral arteritis (EVA) and was taken out of training.

Run Prissy Run produced eight foals, seven runners - all winners. Her first foal, Auto Be a Runner, by Autocracy, was a stakes winner at two taking the restricted Bayouland Sales Stakes at Evangeline Downs in 1997.

Doctor Mike, also by Autocracy, is her most accomplished runner with earnings of $503,799 winning seven stakes races, including the Sport of Kings Futurity at two. Doctor Mike is now standing stud at Clear Creek Stud, and his first foals are yearlings of 2007.

Run Prissy Run’s runners have accumulated nearly $1-million in purse earnings.

Said Valene, “I went out to see her this morning at the farm, and by the time I made it down to my office in New Orleans I got the bad news. I sold a half interest of her to Val Murrell-general manager of Clear Creek Stud-after she produced her third foal. It’s so sad to see her leave us, but her last foal that she produced in 2005, Auto’s Last Girl (by Autocracy) is a full-sister to Doctor Mike, and she looks very promising. She may be the best of the bunch.”

Run Prissy Run was buried at Clear Creek Stud.
