Did you consider the Illinois Derby for King of the Roxy?

Barry, You seem to be the only prominent owner who time and time again is brave enough to sound your voice on the cheating that is going on in our sport. Furthermore, you are the only one who backs their opinion up with the some viable, and attainable pre and post race protocols, that I feel, would effectively level the playing field in thoroughbred horse racing. What will it take for racing to embrace your ideals as they seem to be basic, clear cut, and not far fetched? Additionally, what racing jurisdictions do you feel are the most progressive in their quest to clean up horse racing?

What do you think of all of the small partnership groups that are being advertised? Has anyone ever made money and/or gotten a good horse by investing $399?

What is the entry point dollar wise on some of your partnerships.\?

Your concept of having all racetrack medications supervised under a "company store"-type of security method was a radical departure from the current state of racing. What sort of feedback have you received? I know that here in WV, some of the individuals making the most money at the track are the vets.

You've enjoyed a lot of success purchasing overseas horses for racing in the US. What attributes do you look for when assessing tried horses in foreign racing jurisdictions?

Hi Mr. Irwin, thank you for answering our questions. I have a question about partnerships, and what happens when a real winner comes along. When a filly wins some black type, she becomes quite valuable as a broodmare. A colt that wins big races can go on to a lucrative stud career. How do partnerships handle these assets? Put it another way... do people in the partnership retain any rights to a horse once it's racing career is over?

You've been an outspoken critic of horse racing's inability to effectively police itself with respect to performance enhancing drugs. What organization/association/group do you see as the most likely to lead the effort, and what would be your #1 priority?

Do you still hold the high jump record at Beverly Hills High School?

What did you pay for King of the Roxy?

How do you feel the emergence of synthetic racing surfaces will impact breeding in the USA? Will it lessen the dominance of speed that has trumped most other bloodline considerations for the past decade so?

Irwin:

Can you name a few things about handicapping that you've learned as an owner that you didn't know as a horseplayer?

Hello Barry: As a long time fan of Thoroughbred Racing and Breeding and the occasional owner of a bottom claimer at Beulah Park, I agree with your comments on the "Lack of Integrity" in Racing. But, with so many integrity issues where would you begin? Which issues would you tackle first? It's easy to say just do that Reaganomics thing and start at the top and let the rest trickle down. But, is that really the right place to start? Or would you begin with what the general public see's like other major league sports have tried to address recently within their respective arenas? Thank you, Chris Roberts.

With the great career you have had. What are couple of things you want most?

Irwin:

Georgetown College, Georgetown, KY
I'm a freshmen in college and have a deep passion for the Thoroughbred industry as it relates to both racing and sales. Any free time I have is usually spent reading about pedigrees, racing history or, of course, The Blood-Horse. I do not, however, have any strong connections to people in the industry and I keep hearing that it's a hard business to break into unless you "know the right people" or are "from the right families." Can you give me any advice on what I can do over the next four years of college to make it easier to break into the industry when I graduate? Several people I go to school with have the same interests and concerns and we're very eager to hear your views. Thank you.
