Call Me Clash Runs Away in Horatius Stakes Gerard Artz’s Call Me Clash led virtually from start to finish in winning the $74,600 Horatius Stakes for 3-year-olds by three lengths at Laurel Park Saturday. Jeremy Rose had the Maryland-bred Clash By Night gelding in front of his five rivals less than a dozen strides after the start of the six-furlong event. The Scott Lake trainee circled the Laurel Park oval at a steady clip and drew away to win in 1:10.49. Casey Doon and Horacio Karamanos chased the winner to no avail and settled for second money. Heart Throbbin’ was third with Ryan Foglesonger aboard. Trainer John Rigattieri’s 3-5 entry of Saratoga Lulaby and Alruncojump finished fifth and sixth, respectively. “He was a monster today,” Rose said. “We broke well but I was expecting that someone might go so I would sit off the pace. But if they were going to give me a lead like that I was going to take it.” The Lake-Rose duo teamed up for two wins on the afternoon and have reached the winners’ circle as a team five times this week. “It has been great for me,” added Rose, who leads the colony with 45 victories, 10 more than Mario Pino. “Scott wins with everyone so I am glad it is me. I have been trying to ride for him for a few years and I am happy for the opportunity.” Saturday's win was worth $42,000. Call Me Clash paid $9.80 $5.20 and $5.80. Casey Doon returned $8.80 and $6.80. Heart Throbbin' was $6.80 to show. The exacta paid $51.60 and the trifecta returned $141.40. (Chart, Equibase) |
