Brittlyn Stable’s Brother Bean set a track record when he covered 5 1/2 furlongs in 1:03.09 in Thursday’s first race at Fair Grounds Race Course.

The 4-year-old Louisiana-bred gelding broke in full stride to make the pace throughout in fractions of :22:38, :44.97, and :56.86 before drawing off for a 2 3/4-length tally under jockey Robby Albarado. As the odds-on choice of the public, the Victor Arceneaux trainee returned $2.60, $2.20 and $2.10 while increasing his career earnings to $175,500 with his fifth victory from seven lifetime starts.

It was the first track record set at this meet. Toby’s Success held the 5 1/2-furlong record of 1:03.20, establishing the mark in January 2004.
