(Edited press release)

The $100,000 Hallandale Beach Stakes for 3-year-olds, a 1 1/16 miles turf test on Saturday’s card at Gulfstream Park, attracted an overflow field of 16, although only 12 will start.

Barry Schwartz’ Fernando Po and Herman Heinlein’s Soldier’s Dancer have each posted a pair of stakes victories on turf early in their promising careers and will likely vie for favoritism in the wide-open contest.

Chris DeCarlo will be aboard Fernando Po for trainer Mike Hushion as the son of Johannesburg  makes his first start since capturing the Kris S Stakes at Calder Dec. 9 with Soldier's Dancer a head back in second. The latter is a son of Lost Soldier  trained by Dave Vivian. He came back to win the Tropical Park Derby (gr. IIIT) at Calder on New Year’s Day.

The field for the Hallandale Beach consists of:
1—One of the Best, R. R. Douglas, 120
2—Fernando Pro, C. P. DeCarlo, 122
3—Rutledge Cat, F. Jara, 120
