Evangeline Downs is set to open the gates to its third card of the season tonight, but all attention is centered on a Friday night sprint contest.
A routine allowance sprint has taken on special importance as an unexpected interloper, Hallowed Dreams, has invaded the seven-horse field.
The record-breaking four-year old filly, a winner in 20 of 21 starts, will challenge the boys for the first time in her career. Hallowed Dreams holds the national mark for consecutive victories by a filly (14) and suffered her only loss in last summer's Millennium Handicap, a race written specifically to give the filly the opportunity at Thoroughbred-record 17 straight wins.
Others eligible for tomorrow's 5-1/2 furlong sprint worth $17,500 include Bid On Malagra, Early Goer and Itsacryingshame. The final field will be announced tomorrow.
Post time for the featured ninth race is about 10:15 p.m., with the ten-race card slated to begin at 6:45 p.m. Live racing will continue at EVD tomorrow and Saturday night at the same time with Thoroughbred racing available locally every Wednesday-Saturday until Labor Day.
