Edited press release
A decade after he left the employ of Hall of Fame trainer Wayne Lukas to start his own business, 2006 trainer of the year Todd Pletcher and his mentor are in the same "stable" again, this time as endorsement partners with Youbet.com, where the mission is to win new customers.
Youbet CEO Charles Champion announced the addition of Pletcher as an endorsement partner Feb. 20.
Last month, Pletcher was named trainer of the year for the third consecutive time at the National Thoroughbred Racing Association Eclipse Awards. In 2006, the 39-year-old conditioner set a single-season purse earnings record of $27,670,243 and broke Lukas' 19 year-old North American record for most stakes wins in a year. Lukas has been a Youbet endorsement partner since 2004.
"Todd Pletcher is a legend in the making," said Champion. "He's a young man who is an extraordinary trainer and a great ambassador for our sport. It’s a privilege to be associated with him and to have his support of our brand."
"A new generation of horse racing fans is discovering our sport online," Pletcher said. "Youbet does the best job of taking horse racing to market for this key segment of younger fans, and I'm delighted to be working with them to help expand the base and bring new fans to racing."
Champion said Youbet sought the endorsement deal with Pletcher to help expand the company's appeal to younger audiences.
"The 21- to 40-year-old segment is our most robust source of new customers and handle growth," Champion asserted. "By featuring our relationship with Todd, we expect to place an accent on the youth movement that is helping to spur growth in our core business. What is more, we think that Todd's endorsement, combined with Wayne's, will communicate a message to two generations of horsemen about the positive role that ADW has in the future success of the sport."
"Put another way," Champion said, "we think we have hit the industry's all-time promotion daily double!"
