Leslie Harrison, Managed Plantation Stud, Dies From a small broodmare band, de Walden bred and raised such acclaimed racehorses and stallions as champion Kris, his champion full brother Diesis, Epsom Derby (Eng-I) winner Slip Anchor and champion Grand Lodge. “Leslie had the greatest combined knowledge of pedigree and conformation, and how that combination should work to produce a Thoroughbred athlete, as well as anyone who ever lived," said Lexington-based bloodstock advisor Michael S. Brown, who lived and worked at Plantation during the mid-1980’s and was a long-time friend of Harrison. Harrison was also a world-class breeder of Lerchers, the coursing dogs he loved, if anything, more than he did horses. Since his retirement two years ago, Harrison was noted for hosting pedigree salons at his home in Newmarket, where a new generation of Thoroughbred market professionals could discuss and debate Thoroughbred pedigrees both past and present. Harrison is survived by his wife, Ruth. The funeral was private, but there will be a public memorial service during Craven week at Newmarket racecourse in April. |
