As the second day of the four day Perth Magic Millions sale in Western Australia ended, former U.S. sprinter El Moxie was the top attraction.
El Moxie was the sire of the top priced hip sold going for Aus$170,000 (U.S.$134,000). El Moxie (by Conquistador Cielo-Raise The Standard) a multiple winner on dirt in the U.S. 10 years ago, rose to fame following the exploits of his former champion sprinting son Silent Witness in Hong Kong and Japan.
Anyway, Western Australia trainer Dan Morton paid the price of $170,000 for a half-sister to group I Hong Kong International Sprint winner Natural Blitz. The filly (consigned by Mungrup Stud) is a daughter of Silent Witness's Emirates Park-based sire El Moxie and the 12th foal out of Bletchingly mare Miiharo. Morton summed up: “She's a really beautiful filly: a really athletic filly & she has a good pedigree to go along with it. You have to pay big money for fillies like her & I think she was priced fairly on the market.”
WA’s Belhus Racing Stables paid Aus$130,000 for a colt by Bletchley Park (the second foal out of dual-winning Dauberval mare Lots Of Secrets) consigned by Dawson Stud. The colt’s dam Lots Of Secrets is a half-sister to winner Secret’s Out (dam of stakes-placed Translate).
Santoso Wirya also paid $130,000 for another colt by Bletchley Park (the third foal out of winning Last Tycoon mare Mega Millions) consigned by Gervase Park Stud as agent. The colt’s dam Mega Millions is a full-sister to eight-time winner and stakes-placed Break The Bank (a half-sister to four-time winner and stakes-placed Pelukis).
Overall during the initial two sessions (the 1st section) at the Magic Millions Perth Sale, 292 yearlings sold for a record Aus$13,455,350 (U.S.$10,552,000) (up 20.5% on last year’s 287 sold for $11,162,000). The $46,080 cumulative average was up 18.5% (last year $38,892). Managing director David Chester commented: "It's been a record-breaking last couple of days in Perth and we couldn't be any happier." The leading buyers during the 1st Section were John Chalmers Bloodstock (12 lots for $799,000) and Parnham Racing (17 lots for $708,000).
