Star Parade, a multiple grade I winner for Gary Tanaka, has been retired from racing to become a broodmare.
Star Parade, who began her racing career in her native Argentina, lived up to her name in big way in the U.S. Trained by Darrell Vienna, she won or placed in 15 stakes, all graded. She raced first in the U.S. for J. Doug McClure, then for Tanaka.
For Tanaka, Star Parade made 23 starts, all in graded company. She won the 2004 Santa Maria (gr. I) and Milady Breeders' Cup (gr. I) Handicaps, the 2005 Bayakoa Handicap (gr. II), and the 2006 Santa Maria and Hawthorne Handicap (gr. III). All nine of her stakes-placings came in grade I or grade II events, including the Santa Margarita (gr. I) and Vanity (gr. I) Handicaps and consecutive runnings of the Apple Blossom Handicap (gr. I).
While racing for McClure, Star Parade captured the 2003 Bayakoa.
Star Parade, who was a winner in Argentina, retired with nine wins from 35 races and earnings of $1,226,719.
Bred by Firmamento and foaled in 1999, Star Parade is by Parade Marshall and is out of stakes winner Clerical Etoile (by The Watcher). Breeding plans are undecided.
