English Stallion Mark of Esteem Withheld from Stud Duty

Darley stallion Mark of Esteem, who is coming off a fifth-place ranking on the 2006 English/Irish sires list, has been indefinitely suspended from stud duties following recent tests that have indicated a decrease in his fertility level.

The 14-year-old son of Darshaan suffered the loss of a testicle following colic surgery around two years ago, but completed both the 2005 and 2006 Southern Hemisphere breeding seasons in Brazil and successfully covered over 90 mares at Dalham Hall Stud last year.

Stud director Liam O'Rourke said "Mark of Esteem's breeding season is very much on hold following recent disappointing fertility analysis results. Whilst his general health and libido remain excellent, on veterinary advice we have decided to suspend his season pending further investigation."

Mark of Esteem was represented by his first Vodafone Epsom Derby (Eng-I) winner last year. His son, Sir Percy, England's champion 2-year-old of male of 2005, won England's greatest race and was a champion.

A classic-winning miler, Mark of Esteem has sired 21 stakes winners. He is out of the Ajdal mare Homage.
