In its first major foray into the Pennsylvania stallion market, Kentucky-based Richland Hills will stand multiple graded stakes winner Pies Prospect at Vince Tucciarone's Fox Tale Stud in Coopersburg.
Pies Prospect won three stakes in 2004, including the Pegasus Stakes (gr. III) over Eddington at Meadowlands and the Fred W. Hooper Handicap (gr. III) by 8 1/2 lengths at Calder Race Course. In 2006 at Tampa Bay Downs, Pies Prospect set a track record for 1 1/16 miles. Pies Prospect placed in five stakes, including the Donn (gr. I) and Haskell Invitational (gr. I) Handicaps.
Pies Prospect (Crafty Prospector--Hot Pillow, by Bates Motel) retired with six wins from 21 races and earnings of $712,859 for owner Robert V. LaPenta. His third dam, Cool Mood, is the granddam of Touch Gold and With Approval.
Richland Hills president Nathan Fox said the infusion of slots money into the Pennsylvania program made it an easy decision to send Pies Prospect to Fox Tale. "We're not involved in this horse in name only" Fox said. "We'll breed mares to Pies Prospect this season, and next year we'll likely send additional ones in foal to Kentucky stallions, foal them out in Pennsylvania, and breed them back to Pies Prospect."
Pies Prospect's fee is $2,500.
