The Fasig-Tipton Midlantic winter mixed sale enjoyed big gains in its average and median prices Monday in Tmonium, Md.. But the number of horses sold and the gross revenue declined significantly.

Overdue Number, in foal to Red Bullet, brought the auction's top price of $20,000. Heather Larson purchased the 5-year-old daughter of Polish Numbers from Legacy Farm.

Produced from the stakes-placed Silver Ghost mare Overdue Ghost, who captured eight races, Overdue Number is a full sister to added-money winner Ghostly Numbers. Overdue Number, who failed to place in her only race, produced a Kafwain  colt last year.

Fasig-Tipton reported that 45 horses were sold for a gross of $253,200. The average was $5,627, and the median was $4,000. Compared to 2006, when 117 horses were sold, the gross fell 50.8% from $514,700. The average rose 27.9%, from $4,399. And the median soared 100.0%, from $2,000.

The buy-back rate dropped from 32.4% last year to 26.2% this year.
