Apprentice Joe Talamo, dominating the jockey standings at Fair Grounds, became the first rider of the 2007 meet to post five wins on a single card Friday.
Talamo, a 17-year-old native of Marrero, La., completed his five-bagger when he piloted Autumn Hill Stables LLC’s Mister Attitude to an 11 3/4-length win in Friday’s finale.
Earlier in the afternoon, Talamo won Friday’s second race aboard Plea For Lee, came right back to tally with Show Me More in the third, and made it three straight with a win aboard Red Bean in the fourth. The youngster also captured the sixth race aboard Cotton Lane.
Through Friday, Talamo has won 68 races at the meeting, 27 more than six-time Fair Grounds leading rider Robby Albarado.
The five-win day is one shy of the all-time Fair Grounds record of six, a feat accomplished eight times – most recently by Albarado on March 11, 2004.
