Selvatica Brings Record $560,000 at Barretts Mixed Sale

Boosted by the sale record price of $560,000 for the Forestry mare Selvatica, the Barretts January mixed sale in Southern California ended its first session Monday with increases in gross revenue, average price, and median price. Narvick International purchased the 6-year-old added-money winner from Havens Bloodstock, agent for the complete dispersal of Granja Vista Del Rio.

Last year, Selvatica captured the Bangles and Beads Stakes at Fairplex Park, where Barretts is located. She also scored in the Pine Tree Lane Stakes during the Oak Tree Meeting at Santa Anita Park and the Manta Stakes at Hollywood Park. In her most recent outing, she finished 11th in the Jan. 1 Monrovia Handicap (gr. III) at Santa Anita.

Jeff Mullins trained the homebred Selvatica for Granja Vista Del Rio. John Sadler was her trainer prior to 2006.

Selvatica was produced from the stakes-winning Strawberry Road mare Pareja.

Barretts reported that 223 horses were sold Monday for a gross of $2,562,000. The average was $11,491, and the median was $5,000. Compared to the same session a year ago, when 239 horses were sold, the gross was up 6.6% from $2,402,600. The average grew 14.3%, from $10,053. And median rose 25.0% from $4,000.

The buy-back rate was 17.7%, compared to 11.8% in 2006.

The auction's second and final session is Tuesday, beginning at 11 a.m. (PST).
