Fasig-Tipton Catalogs 301 Horses for Calder Select Juvenile Auction

Fasig-Tipton has cataloged 301 horses for its Florida select sale of 2-year-olds in training on March 6 at Calder Race Course. The total is down slightly from the 309 listed last year.

"We have a strong group overall this year," said Boyd Browning, Fasig-Tipton's executive vice president and chief operating officer. "There is plenty of sire power. We've got jazzy pedigrees that will be desirable to anyone in the world. We also have horses with good physicals."

The auction holds the juvenile single sale world records for gross, average, median, and number of horses sold for $1 million or more apiece. Last year at the sale, The Green Monkey brought  $16 million to become the highest-priced Thoroughbred ever soldat public auction.

"Is it possible another horse will bring $16 million this year? Yes. Is it probable? No," Browning said. "It was a wonderful experience and wonderful when it happened, but I don’t think it is likely that it will occur again. If you were making a wager, you would bet that we would not have a 16-million horse this year. But we could still have a great market without a horse at that level."
