Grade I Angara Booked to Coolmore Stallion Montjeu

Multiple grade 1 winner Angara has been retired.

Angara, a millionaire and two-time grade I turf winner, has been retired from racing and booked to leading Irish stallion Montjeu.

A 6-year-old daughter of Alzao, Angara won both the 2005 Beverly D. Stakes (gr. IT) over Megahertz at Arlington Park and the Bewitch Stakes (gr. IIIT) at Keeneland for Martin S. Schwartz. The following year, she captured the Diana Handicap (gr. IT) at Saratoga for the Sangster family's Swettenham Stud.

Angara, who was bred in Great Britain by Daniel Wildenstein's Dayton Investments, started her racing career in France for Ecurie Wildenstein, winning two of four starts. After racing as a 4-year-old for Schwartz, she went unsold for $2.2 million at the 2005 Fasig-Tipton Kentucky November mixed sale. The Sangster family later bought her privately and transferred her from trainer Patrick Biancone to Bill Mott.

Angara retired with six wins from 21 races and earnings of $1,101,700. She placed in four New York graded stakes, including the 2005 Diana.

Angara is out of multiple stakes producer Ange Bleu (by Alleged), who is a half-sister to European champion and Breeders' Cup Classic (gr. I) winner Arcangues. Her resultant foal will be inbred 3x4 to Northern Dancer.

Montjeu, a Northern Dancer grandson, stands at Coolmore Stud.
