Jockey Ryan Fogelsonger was diagnosed with a sprained neck and released from Laurel Regional Hospital Wednesday evening after being thrown during the seventh race at Laurel Park.
After further examination Thursday, the injury was downgraded to a bruised neck and Fogelsonger is expected to return to action Saturday at Laurel, according to a track spokesman.
Kevin Witte, Fogelsonger’s agent, indicated his rider will not compete at Laurel Park Thursday.
Fogelsonger was hospitalized for tests when the 3-year-old
Brahms filly Sing On tossed tossed him seconds after crossing the finish line in the seventh race at Laurel Park Jan. 10.
Fogelsonger, a 2002 Eclipse Award winning apprentice, landed on the back of his neck. The 25-year-old, who has 1,095 career wins for purses of $22.9 million, has suffered multiple concussion and back injuries during his career.
