Even-money selection Night Chapter, ridden by Brice Blanc for trainer Bobby Frankel, took command mid-stretch and drew away to a 2 1/4-length win in the $75,000 Cotton Fitzsimmons Mile Handicap on the Turf Paradise grass course Saturday.

It was the first stakes win for the British-bred Night Chapter, a 6-year-old Night Shift horse who races for Frankel and Diamond Pride LLC.

Night Chapter tracked the pace set by Wait in Line in second before forcing the issue in the lane and getting the lead, edging away in the final eighth.

Wait in Line, ridden by Adolfo Morales, finished in a dead-heat with True Dancer and Chris Landeros for second. The final time was 1:36 on a firm course.

The victory, Night Chapter's fifth in 21 lifetime starts, improved the bay's earnings to $206,242.

Night Chapter paid $4, $2.80, and $2.60. Wait in Line returned $3.80 and $4.20. True Dancer paid $2.40 and $3.
