Apprentice jockey Jermaine Bridgmohan suffered several broken bones after he went down hard in Wednesday’s fifth race on opening day at Gulfstream Park. His mount Tom’s Mulligan clipped heels going into the first turn on the turf course with several horses running over Bridgmohan after he hit the ground.

The 18-year-old suffered a broken right hand, two broken ribs on his right side and a fractured left collarbone, according to Gulfstream clerk of scales Victor Sanchez, who visited Bridgmohan at Memorial Regional Hospital in Hollywood Beach. Sanchez said Bridgmohan sat up in bed and was in relatively good spirits Thursday morning.
