Christmas Kid Delivers New Year's Present for Evans

Edward P. Evans’ favored homebred Christmas Kid won the first stakes race of her four-race career when taking the $100,000 Tropical Park Oaks by a half length over Perfect Motion on Monday at Calder Race Course.

Ridden by her regular jockey Kent Desormeaux, Christmas Kid stalked the pace in the 1 1/16-mile turf contest and did not take the lead until the final strides. She covered the distance in 1:43.19. 

Lisa M was 1¼ lengths behind Perfect Motion in third.

Sent off at odds of 5-to-2, Christmas Kid paid $7.80, $4.40, and $3.80.  Her second victory pushes her lifetime earnings to $96,587. 

Perfect Motion, ridden by Rafael Bejarano, paid $4.20 and $3.40, while Lisa M and Cornelio Velasquez returned $7.40 to show.

A daughter of Lemon Drop Kid  , Christmas Kid was bred in Virginia.

Snow Cone finished fourth followed by Cat Charmer, Go Native, Changeisgonnacome and Silkily in a dead heat for seventh, followed by In for a Dime, Secretsoftheheart, Fiestive Event, and Naseem.
